About BCGIA and BC’s land-based casino industry

The British Columbia Gaming Industry Association (“BCGIA”) formed in 2015 to provide strategic leadership to its members and to serve as a unified voice to government on behalf of BC’s private sector gaming operators. Through consistent and disciplined advocacy, the BCGIA has earned its reputation as collaborative partner to stakeholders and government, and an effective advocate for its members’ needs.

The association represents 12 gaming operator member companies that own and manage 30 properties across the province that include casinos and community gaming centres with bingo, and non-gaming amenities such as theatres, hotels, conference centres, and food and beverage facilities.

British Columbia’s casino gaming sector is a core contributor to the province’s diversified revenue base, serving as both an economic powerhouse within the entertainment industry and a stable source of non-resource-based income, while supporting employment and infrastructure investments across urban and rural communities, as well as municipalities and First Nations.

As of 2025, BC’s casino operators have made capital investments of $2.8 Billion. The industry’s total economic impact in 2025 includes generating:

  • 13,051 jobs.
  • Labour income of $969 million.
  • Annual profit to government of $852 million.

What about online casinos?

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) operates PlayNow, the only online casino site legally allowed to operate in BC.

Governance

The BCGIA is governed by a Board of Directors. Each member company appoints a director to the Board. Each year at the Annual General Meeting, the Board of Directors appoints an Executive Committee and sets the association’s priorities through a strategic planning session.

The BCGIA employs an Executive Director to support the Board and Executive, act as spokesperson, engage with members to develop and provide strategic policy advice and prepare draft policy submissions.

The Executive Director receives direction from the Executive Committee. The full board of directors meets at least once per quarter and provides direction to the Executive Committee and Executive Director. Other meetings are held throughput the year, as needed.

All members are directly engaged in the formulation of association policy positions.

We take a structured approach to advocacy.

Through a disciplined approach, we ensure that government receives timely and relevant industry input on an ongoing basis. We consistently connect with key officials at BCLC, the Independent Gaming Control Office (IGCO), elected MLAs at the Cabinet and caucus levels, and ministerial staff.

We focus on solutions that work for all our members.

BC’s casino industry is comprised of diverse businesses and unique properties in urban and rural communities across the province, each with differing regulatory challenges and financial considerations.  Using a consensus-based approach, the BCGIA ensures that our submissions and policy proposals are informed by our members’ direct input.

Our Board of Directors

The BCGIA’s Board of Directors is comprised of top gaming leaders that have extensive operational, regulatory, and capital deployment experience. Many have decades of direct operational experience in the casino industry, both in BC and elsewhere. The collective expertise and relationships provided by our directors ensure that our advocacy is thoughtful, well-informed, and effective.
